1939-45, date and venue unknown
Other than hearsay, we had no proof that the Players actually performed during the war, and the blackout regulations would have precluded any evening productions with stage lighting, making the claim seem unlikely. That was until some photographs turned up in an album of 50s shows including Elegant Edward from 1955. Some are marked “wartime production” and are clearly different from the 1955 show. It looks like it was performed in someone’s house, which would have been the only logical venue. The houses in Chelsfield Park were large even by suburban standards, so productions would have been possible. There were probably other such shows, but we have no evidence of them. |
Ellen George, Teddy Hollands and Norman Nash (and maybe others) reprised their roles in the 1955 production
