Rookery Nook
by Ben Travers; producer Brian Matthew
11-13 March 1965
It took a while, but we finally found the play where the future David Jason, then David White, found his way onto the Chelsfield Village Hall stage. He was doing his first professional work at Bromley Rep and was perhaps tempted to come to Chelsfield by the chance of working with BBC presenter Brian Matthew. David’s brother is Arthur White, who was then (and now) a professional actor, and Brian was working with a certain Arthur White with his side project Pilgrim Players. Rookery Nook is a farce by Ben Travers based on his 1923 novel. The play depicts the complications that ensue when a young woman, dressed in pyjamas, seeks refuge from her bullying stepfather at a country house in the middle of the night. |
