The Aspern Papers
adapted by Michael Redgrave from Henry James; producer Harold Hart
1-3 November 1973
The Aspern Papers is Michael Redgrave’s 1959 adaptation of the Henry James novella of 1888, in which a biographer visits an old woman in Venice in an attempt to get his hands on the letters Romantic poet Jeffrey Aspern wrote to her in her youth. The story is inspired by the correspondence between Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley’s stepsister, Claire Clairmont. |
