The Absence Of War
by David Hare, directed by Philippa Rooke
30 November – 2 December 2023
George Jones, leader of the British Labour Party, prepares to fight a General Election. His opponent is supposedly the Tory Prime Minister Kendrick, but his biggest battles will be within his own party. David Hare’s play was inspired by his experience working for the Labour Party in the UK’s 1992 General Election, when Neil Kinnock’s Labour was widely expected to win but eventually lost. |
