30 March – 1 April 1995
At a party thrown by Lady Windermere, Lord Arthur Savile is introduced to Septimus Podgers, a palm-reader. Podgers reads his palm and recoils when he sees what’s ‘written’ there: that Lord Arthur is destined to be a murderer. Lord Arthur wants to marry his sweetheart, Sybil Merton, but believes he cannot in all good conscience do so with such a fate hanging over him. He decides that the only thing for it is to commit the murder first, before marrying Sybil. This proves more difficult than expected. |
