This show is shown in the accounts for 1956-7, but we know nothing more about it. The photo albums and other archives stress that there were no shows in 1957, making this show likely to have been performed in autumn 1956. The accounts for the following year include a charge for photos but these have not survived, although they add to the certainty that the performance happened.
Nonetheless, other sources speak of the Players going out of business for a couple of years at this time, and there seems to have been a change of guard during the hiatus. Most plays before this are credited to Eric Hart as producer (i.e. director); after this time the name Brian Matthew takes over.
As an aside, the accounts for 1958/9 include £1 10/ to buy a wreath for Vernon Tomalin, a long-standing member who is seen in many earlier productions; most recently Grand National Night in 1955.
