June 1953
The post-war housing crisis forces a shy young woman to share a house with two married couples. Ronald Jeans’ 1949 comedy was adapted into a film two years later, providing an early role for Audrey Hepburn. As with After October, this play was never listed in the later records of the Society and its existence only came to light in the late 2010s, when redecorating at the Village Hall uncovered a schedule of events celebrating the coronation, including this show by the Players. Later study of the account books proves that it did take place and even made one of the Society’s biggest profits of the era. |
