Probably July 1952
Our Town is a three-act play written by American playwright Thornton Wilder in 1938. Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written”, it presents the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. This play does not appear in any of the official lists of Chelsfield productions but it is listed in the 1952 accounts, seemingly the only play performed in the 1952-53 financial year. Perhaps it was the show performed at “Four Winds” (presumably in a garden in Chelsfield Park), although we have no way of knowing for sure. |
